Lerner | Ladds + Bartels, in conjunction with its consultants and Johnson & Wales University, devised a five-component study for Xavier Chapel in the downtown Providence campus of Johnson & Wales University. During the existing conditions survey phase, building professionals and experienced craftsman were assembled to assess the interior and exterior components of the chapel. Exhaustive efforts were made to identify deficiencies and to recommend the proper remedy. Each consultant filed a report describing their assessment and estimated associated costs.
Numerous drawings of the existing buildings were received from the University. After reviewing these drawings, the interiors and exteriors of the chapel were thoroughly photo-documented and compared with the old drawings to identify discrepancies. From the old drawings and photo-documentation, new drawings were generated to accurately portray existing conditions. Based on consultant reports and site observations it was then possible to determine a realistic cost projection for maintenance or replacement of the respective systems.
To better inform the planning process, renovation needs were assessed by L | L + B based on their own observations and the observations of their consultants. This information was then transformed into schematic drawings in order to graphically illustrate the scope of work. A written scope of work was also generated to further clarify the required work for comprehensive chapel revitalization.
