Tyler Hall Data Center

The Tyler Hall Machine Room at the University of Rhode Island suffered from a number of flaws. Wiring and organization of the machines lacked proper configuration. Placement of supplementary offices hindered maximum square footage. Additionally, the Hall’s mechanical room suffered from a similar disorganization.
Lerner | Ladds + Bartels headed the renovation effort designed to encapsulate and reorganize the data center in the previous area, incorporating standard necessities such as raised flooring and cooling systems. Serving as the nerve center for the entire campus, the new data center consolidates several previously disparate server locations. Developed through close working relationships with Creative Environment Corporation and Lighthouse Computer Services, a migration schedule of services was drafted and the impact of offline periods on the campus considered and properly addressed. The new programming layout also allows for a larger amount of computers in a smaller area, effectively increasing the aggregate amount of actively-utilized square footage.
The mechanical and electric rooms have been relocated to the eastern side of the building to prepare for the new College of Pharmacy building, another L|L+B-influenced aspect of the new face of URI along with the Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences structure.
