Brown University approached Lerner | Ladds + Bartels to perform an exterior study on the Pizzatola Recreation Center and the Meehan Auditorium. An in-house-charrette was held to discuss the current problems with the existing structures and possible design solutions. Scale, intergration into the urban context (campus fabric), and cohesiveness of the exterior treatments were the major concerns that emanated from the office discussion. A kit of parts was developed and applied in differnet combinations. Each combination of parts resulted in a seperate scheme that took into consideration the major problems with the current configuration. At the end of the study, L | L + B produced a written report including all of the process and descriptive renderings of each of the schemes for the University to consider in its planning.
