The University of Rhode Island International House is a new building adjoining the existing Multicultural Center. The design of the addition is a reinterpretation of its architectural and programmatic neighbor. In fact, the two programs will share space and activities, including the larger auditorium. The design includes an administrative area, offices, resource rooms, gathering spaces, and 2 apartments for visiting professors and lecturers.
The exterior design is also an integral component of program and landscape objectives within the campus, with a welcoming interior pedestrian walkway, entrance, and exterior gathering spaces. Events are intended to spill out onto the exterior terraces and invite students, faculty, and staff to join in discussions about the world beyond the campus.
