Partnership with Payette Associates

The Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences is the first building to anchor the new Biotech North District at the University of Rhode Island. This LEED-Silver building carries all of the aspirations of the University to create world-class, environmentally responsive facilities. Payette Associates, a premier laboratory specialist, partnered with Lerner | Ladds + Bartels, a renowned local firm with a respected history in Rhode Island, to develop a plan that is at once complex and elegant, working within the context of the larger master plan while creating a new context — the North District. Bid documents for the $42 million 140,000 sf building were completed in March 3rd of 2007, with ground-breaking occurring on March 27th and ribbon-cutting on January 26th. 2009.
The Payette / L | L + B team has also been awarded the brand new Pharmacy Building adjacent to CBLS, which began design in September of 2007.
