Bryant University approached Lerner | Ladds + Bartels to reinvigorate their Advancement Office within the campus’s iconic Unistructure building. The existing office suffered from a distinct “cubicle farm” feel, lacking a necessary element of cohesion and a sense of welcoming. Working closely with the University, and the structure’s existing grid system, L | L + B designed bays to create semi-private group offices in support of increased collaboration and exterior sound control. Organizing these offices into a more deliberate configuration affords more effective and efficient use of space per user.
In support of forming this space into the new face of the Advancement Department, the entrance received much-need side-lighting to create a more inviting atmosphere. Down-lighting and accent carpets divide the newly-created hallway, using natural lighting to indicate offices and darker-colored finishes to denote storages spaces. Use of natural wood adds a warming touch to the environment, and interior glazing allows additional natural light to penetrate further into the building. The furnishings and finishes selected for this project served as the template for additional renovation efforts in the Unistructure led by L | L+ B, including the Help Desk and IS Operations Department.
A multi – disciplinary, award – winning architecture firm, Lerner | Ladds + Bartels has left its imprint on the landscape for over 70 years. Our strength is the diversity of work, including institutional, historic restoration, adaptive reuse, commercial and residential projects. While the firm continues to grow and evolve, a commitment to thoughtful design remains at our core.
