This housing feasibility study for the Rhode Island School of Design indicated how the conversion of the What Cheer garage could accomodate a significant proportion of the student population on Benefit Street, the residential axis of the University. The benefits of utilizing the structure included a close proximity to campus, no additional use of open land, and no removal of land or buildings from the tax rolls. The scheme called for 10 suites, mostly in single rooms and single occupancy bathrooms, organized around a central courtyard, with a workroom, kitchen, and resident assistant.
