The Perkins Hall dormitory project entailed the restoration and updating of a former Bryant College four-story dormitory, partially open on the ground level, from a barracks-type condition (2 beds, 2 desks, and 2 bureaus) to university standards. The design captured exterior first floor space for added accessible living quarters and developed areas for lounges and study spaces. A new site design united the building with other sections of the campus. The addition and renovation project occurred over the 1991 summer break and was completed in time for the students’ return for fall classes. The project, previously considered the “orphan” of the campus, opened to rave student reviews. “Hotel Perkins” and the “Quad Condos” were just some of the names students gave to the newly renovated dormitory.
