The Appleby Hall project involved the conversion of a former Bryant College dormitory into student suites to be more consistent with intended Brown University housing standards. The original Bryant College dorm was marked by a long double-loaded central corridor shaped like a doughnut around a central courtyard. The solution captured space of the communal toilet facilities, relieved the monotony of the corridor by introducing breaks, and formed living units with separate toilet facilities for groups from three to five students. The Brown Daily Herald, upon completion of the project, wrote that the conversion was the “apple of their eye”.
